Programs of the Christian Veterans Association

Share Package Program

The CVA started sending "Share Packages", similiar to care packages, to troops deployed during Desert Storm. The results of those early package challenged us to keep this program going, even if there was no confilict going on. From Desert Storm to Desert Shield, to Bosnia, to Kosovo and around the world, almost 19,000 of the share packages have been sent since 1992.

VA Hospital and Clinic Assistance.

Some time ago it came to our attention that a lot of veterans in the VA Hospitals receiving medical treatment are lonely. They have no one to visit them. To visit a VA Hospital and see the men in wheel chairs and amputees makes your heart burdened for them. These are not your typical hospitals. The overcrowdedness. The flustration of waiting hours for treatment. The overflow of veterans awaiting a hospital bed. The time it takes to drive to the VA Hospitals and getting someone to drive them there. We at the Christian Veterans Association need to find veterans in a local church who would like to visit our veterans and bring them the Gospel. We know how to visit and get results and would love to train you to be an outreach from your local church. Please contact us at fredbest@bellsouth.net or call 904 307 5370 (cell) for information.

BLITZ Program

In 1993 the CVA began a BLITZ program to help the local church reach veterans and others in their community. The Program works with local churches to help them reach out in their community through an intense week of door-to-door visitation, media releases for Radio, TV and local newspapers, special services including a seniors day and a Veterans Coffee Break. Homeless and disadvantages Veterans Assistance

Several years ago the CVA began networking with area agencies in the Northeast Florida area to identify and assist veterans in need. Through the CVA assistance program the CVA has been able to be involved in the government's Homeless Veterans program. The program "Homeless Veterans Standdown" is a successful ministry to the thousand homeless of which about 60% are veterans. We need veterans in local churches who can be involved once or twice a year to help this program bring veterans benifits to those veterans. The program consists of getting them clothing, food, the Gospel, showers, medical assistance and dental services. To find out more about this ministry in your city contact us at

These homeless veterans need the Gospel.

Save the Chapel Project

The Naval Air Station Cecil Field was closed two years ago and the base is being converted into an industrial and educational site by the City of Jacksonville. The Chapel and Memorial to fallen Veterans needed a sponsor to save the chapel and maintain the Memorial. The CVA is leading the fight to keep the Chapel from being destroyed and preserve it for the home of the CVA and available for use by all veterans for services such as weddings, funerals and special events. If you would like to help in this effort then please email fredbest@bellsouth.net or call 904 307 5370 (cell). Financial assistance is needed as well as tradesmen to help restore the buildings.
